the other weekend, j and i drove up towards dahlonega to go hike at amicalola falls. amicalola is a cherokee indian word meaning “tumbling waters.” these 729-foot falls are the tallest cascading waterfall east of the mississippi river.
we took j's sister and boyfriend to meet up with some of their friends from school. despite getting lost on the way and driving through torrential rain, we finally made it and got on the trail. below was our view on the way up to the falls.
while hiking up to the falls, the sky opened up which was fine by me considering how hot it was outside. so when we made it to the water falls, we were soaked. exhibit a:
the heat, getting lost, and downpour was all worth it though. those falls really are something great.
when we got back from the hike, i had brought peaches from our csa for everyone to enjoy. i don't think it gets any better than that.
on the drive home, we decided to stop in dahlonega for dinner. we ate at the crimson moon cafe where they had a falafel wrap that is to die for. to top the great day off, they had a bluegrass band playing in the cafe. being in the south never felt sweeter.
