Last weekend we went up to Franklin, NC to relax, enjoy the mountains, and look at property to potentially buy (eek)! We stayed at a great cabin on a huge waterfall (found here on VRBO). We got lucky because there were a few houses close together, but since they are most likely seasonal, they were vacant during our stay so still pretty private.
On Friday evening, J went to pick up a few things we forgot to bring when the car went off the side of the driveway. To be fair, it was really dark and once the tow company came they told us that they've had to tow 5+ other cars off this exact same spot in the last few months! Thankfully our car wasn't damaged and we can laugh about it now. :)
On Saturday morning, we met up with our Rrealtor and spent a few hours looking at property and homes. We found a few possible contenders - fingers crossed!
When we got back to the cabin, J's folks came up to join us for the night. We hiked around the waterfall and along all of the wooded paths. I love all of the Mountain Laurel!
Not a bad view from the deck, is it? I wonder if this would lose its magic if you saw it everyday...I wouldn't mind finding out, but all of the other homes right around the house kind of killed the feel of being in nature sadly.
We enjoyed the fire, conversation, and some Apples to Apples.
I made chili and cornbread for everyone. My MIL made strawberry shortcake for dessert. Not super healthy, but the chili was perfect for the cold night.
On Sunday, the sun was shining bright so it was a perfect day to go hiking. We enjoyed a nice big country breakfast and then headed to the Rufus Morgan trail.
The falls were completely incredible! It kept going higher and higher and it was completely desolate so we were the only ones there to enjoy the beauty!
The views were so much more magical than we expected. It's always so nice to find a random trail and then have a lovely surprise!
After a nice lunch in downtown Franklin (which is completely shut down on Sundays, by the way), we came back and relaxed for the rest of the evening. I was lame and did some work to get caught up, but we still enjoyed the down time and fireplace!
Now I just hope we can find the perfect home up in western North Carolina to have more weekends like this in the future!
Fingers crossed!
