Happy Fall Y'all

 Despite loving Summer, I'm ready for Fall!

I'm excited for the leaves to change colors and for perfect nights on the back porch with the chiminea (sadly, we don't have a fireplace...sighs) with apple cider.

I've already got mums on the front stoop and now I've got to get some pumpkins!

Here's a great Autumn bucket list I found (although I must admit that some of these don't apply to me since I don't have kids yet)! My favorites from this list are "go on a nature hike" and "watch "It's a Great Pumpkin,Charlie Brown'" (which is already a tradition in our household...even without kids :))!

We also have a special guest coming to stay with us for a few weeks tonight so I'm excited to show him around the neighborhood tonight and enjoy the first night of Fall!

Fall Favorites

With Fall exactly 1 week away, I figured I'd share some of my favorite Fall fashion staples. 
Burnt orange and army green are always a must for Fall and naturally ankle boots.
For anyone that knows me, aztec/ native prints are my go-to for accessories and for all household items, as well!

Even though I love Summer, I am a sucker for Fall too! Fire pits, changing (and crunchy) leaves, scarves, cozy nights in, weekend camping, and banana bread.

Weekend Recap: Baby Shower Edition

 Fall is in full effect and I'm loving all of the beautiful leaves. This tree is one of my favorites in the neighborhood! It's been nice that walks with Townes are perfect for light jackets (although it's going to get cold fast and I am dreading it). Oddly though, Townes has gotten to where he doesn't want to walk at night (even around 6 PM). It's really bizarre since normally he'll take as many walks as he can. Hopefully nothing is wrong with him, but I'll probably take him to the vet soon to have him checked out just in case.

This weekend was mostly filled with cleaning around the house and running errands in preparation for a couple's baby shower that we were throwing for our best friends on Sunday.

Friday night, after a run to Party City, we ate dinner at Mellow Mushroom. Their pizza is always my favorite!

On Saturday, we took Townes on a really long walk and ended up on the train tracks. The colors were awesome! 

 We spent the rest of the day cleaning, organizing, working in the yard, and prepping the food and decorations. We ended the night with an insane HBO documentary called The Cheshire Murders - creepy!

On Sunday morning, J had to go to his cousin's wedding (I hated to not be there) so I started setting up for the event before Anna (the mommy-to-be), her parents, and Grandmother arrive.

 We lucked out and got nice, sunny weather so outside of the food and hot apple cider, everything else was outside and we ended up having plenty of seating too! Our neighbor let us borrow the 8 foot table and she also randomly had that stork cardboard cutout! :)

 We had a HUGE food selection: cheese plate, veggies + dip, fruit salad (with a baby inside made by the talented daddy-to-be), acorn doughnut holes, petit fours, brownies cheese enchiladas, and potatoes and carrots. 

We ended up playing only 2 games: the pin game and string game. Everyone seemed to love both games and there were some tough competitors!

We all can't wait to meet baby Jake!

After everyone left, we cleaned up and enjoyed the last bit of the fire before I passed out early.

One shower down, and one to go! 

Next weekend is our best friends', Beth and Doug, wedding shower and then I'm on a shower-throwing hiatus for a while!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! 

I know it's been quiet around this space this week, but it's been insanely busy at work and the time change is making it hard to schedule posts for the week...my apologies!

I love the week in photos series that CNN does. I love the shots from all over the world. In Belgium, in commemoration of St. Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, animals are blessed after an annual Mass. Crazy, huh?

I recently discovered the CineFix youtube channel and it's great for movie fans. Check it out!

Hannibal Buress is one of my favorite comedians! I love his random opinions and the illustrations in this article. LOL.

These fall photos are so dreamy. I'm not ready for winter!

I feel like I may have already posted this quote recently. Oops. Regardless, I need to remember this more in my life...and declutter ASAP.

This video made my week - the footage is absolutely breathtaking. Makes me want to just go explore the world and take it all in. I can't imagine how amazing a hot shower and fire would be after surfing in Antarctica! If you do anything today, watch this video! Trust me...swoon!

Weekend Recap: Halloween Edition

I hope your Halloween weekend was a great one - mine sure was! 

On Friday, we got asked to take my niece, Natalie, trick-or-treating and we jumped at the chance. We'd already made plans to keep her on Saturday, but since her best friend was sick, she came over early. Our side of our neighborhood is always pretty slow with trick-or-treaters so it was fun to take Natalie towards the elementary school where there are tons of kids. Even Townes got in on the fun and got lots of dog treats!

 Some of the decorated houses were awesome and many houses even took care of the adults with witch's blood (red wine) or cider with rum...YUM!

 Sorting through the sweet loot! Natalie was over the moon with her giant Hershey bar. Her face here cracks me up! The only bummer was that it started raining on us when we were still coming back from the opposite side of the neighborhood...Townes ultimately was not a fan! We ended the night at the local Mexican restaurant to warm up and dry off. Perfect night!

 The next morning, the temperature dropped significantly and the wind was really strong. We cuddled up and made homemade waffles (Natalie wanted chocolate chips in her waffles, of course). Then we headed to the park for a bit. It was awesome getting to watch the leaves fall from the trees....magical!

Once we got home, we drank cider from my favorite mugs and hung out under the covers for a bit. Then we decided to carve a pumpkin (despite being the day after Halloween...oops!) and make pumpkin seeds.

 Natalie chose the cat template (shocked?) and helped a little bit. She had more fun cleaning the pumpkin seeds. Normally I just roast the seeds, but I had read that boiling the seeds makes them better. Sure enough, it did help make them more crunchy. So good! We used our favorite "magic unicorn" salt!

Natalie and I also did some finger knitting! She was a natural and it was fun to see her so excited about making a scarf.

 For dinner, we decided to brave the cold and get some chinese food. We ate too much and drank a lot of hot tea. Perfect ending to our day!

The next morning, we met up with Beth, Doug, and Anna for brunch at Flying Biscuit. Their creamy grits are so good! Natalie had a huge hot chocolate!

Then we sadly had to take Natalie home before heading to north Georgia to meet J's family at the Yonah Mountain Winery. Since they were calling for more cold weather, I was really bundled up, but it actually ended up being a beautiful day (in the sunshine at least)! We stopped at a great antique mart on the way.

We did the wine tasting and then had a few glasses. I loved the Malbec, Genesis 5, and Sauvignon Blanc!

We ended the night with leftover chinese food and went to bed early (it's always hard to adapt to time changes)!
