Weekly Tiny Home: Portland Rustic Modern Rental

This week's tiny home is a rental unit in Portland, OR. Since eventually I'd like to own a tiny home, I think it's awesome finding rentals, because they help to figure out which layouts and features are best-suited for you. Big perks include lots of light (windows) and wood-burning fireplaces/ stoves.
I like these double doors, but would prefer them to be french doors so you could open up both doors for more of an open air feel.
For being a tiny home, this bathroom actually has a good bit of room and all of the essentials (i.e., bathtub)!
My favorite part of this home is actually the staircase. The reason I prefer the staircase over the loft ladder is purely because of my dog, Townes, and my parents. With a tiny home, I'd want your friends and family to also enjoy the home so it needs to be easily accessible. The kitchen is also great with the counter space and bar stools.
What are some must-have features for you in a tiny home?

Weekend Recap

This weekend was awesome. Super busy, but it was a blast.

On Friday night, I picked up Kelly from the airport around 8:30 PM and we headed to dinner in Decatur. After dinner, we went to Paper Plane for drinks. Kelly's friends, Ali and Max, met up with us too. I've also known Max since high school so it was great to see him!
The whole gang. The drinks were awesome! The OTP cocktail was definitely the group favorite.
The next morning (after a 3 AM bedtime), I was the first one up (with the exception of Townes), so I picked some veggies from the garden and then just enjoyed a Georgia peach on the back porch.

Then we headed to Sun in My Belly for brunch with Johnny C! We had the best time catching up and reminiscing about the past 15 years that we've been friends.

We all shared the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and then I had the "hangover" biscuit sandwich (biscuit with veggie soysage, fried egg, avocado, and siracha). It was pretty awesome!
After brunch, we headed to Universal Joint in Oakhurst for some beers. We had great conversations, Konig beers, and lots of laughs. The only issue was that after day-drinking, Kelly and I definitely came home and napped. :) We ended up laying low Saturday night with Vietnamese for dinner and then watching a movie at the house.
On Sunday, we made tofu scramble for breakfast with fresh fruit, guacamole, and homemade salsa.
While cooking breakfast, I kept finding Townes in different areas of the back porch. It's hilarious how he acts like such a human sometimes!
After breakfast, we headed to Paris on Ponce for their Bastille Day celebration (better late than never, I suppose).

They had flavored moonshine from Dawsonville Moonshine Distillery. Their "Banging In The Woods" recipe was amazing.

They also had a dog costume contest going on while we were there, but we only watched the show for a little bit.

Afterwards, we headed to Twain's to play some shuffleboard and have some draft beers since it was raining outside. For the record, J was the champion.

It's been pretty awesome having Kel in town. I'm so lucky to have her as one of my best friends and it always feels like not a day has passed since we last talked. Even better, her whole family is moving back to ATL so now she'll have to come back even more often!

Hope your weekend was one for the books!

Friday Favorites

How cool is this street art that incorporates nature? The link has 30 different pieces from all over the world.

Interesting scientific research that describes how different colors make us feel. What color do you wear most? Ladies, watch out for red :)

These 9 quotes from John Muir are so inspirational and important to remember each day.

Do you follow National Geographic's instagram? If not, you should! They have the coolest pictures from so many amazing travelers and photographers.

The top 12 scenic countries to avoid reality. I've been to 3 out of 12. This picture of Scotland is pretty tempting! I'm noticing a weekly trend of these types of links on my blog. There's that constant wanderlust... :)

Feeling very moved by this letter that Maya Angelou wrote to her younger self. It's such an important message, especially for young girls trying to grow up so quickly these days.

Lastly, this photo. No caption needed.

Happy Friday loves!
My best friend, Kelly, is in town from Las Vegas this weekend and I can't wait to have some fun girls time with her! Hoping that the weather cooperates since the weatherman is calling for rain.
Cross your fingers for sunshine!

My Week So Far

This week has been very peaceful around these parts. J's been out of town all week so I've been laying low and trying to really enjoy the quiet time. The weather for the past 2 days in ATL have been such a gift! It's almost felt like Fall, but with lots of sunshine and green trees! Lunch outside in the park has been a must.
Since it's just been me (well, and Townes), I made a huge kale salad to eat for lunch. The trick with raw kale for a salad is to remove all of the stems and then really massaging (I am aware that this sounds weird, by the way) the kale leaves while rinsing them under water. The longer you massage the kale, the more tender the leaves will be! I love adding dried cranberries, diced apple, and slivered almonds to summer kale salads. Annie's Goddess Lite dressing is my favorite for kale.

On Wednesday night, my friend Brett (who I've known since childhood) came over with his girlfriend, Rebecca. They were in town from Cincinnati, Ohio. I took them to Kudzu Antiques and then to Raging Burrito in Decatur for dinner. It was great getting to catch up since we hadn't seen each other in probably 8 years. I managed to get a picture with Brett, despite his lack of interest in photos!

After dinner, since the weather was perfect, I took Townes for a really long walk in our neighborhood. I felt really happy and grateful for my life and health. Joie de vivre!
I think Townes was feeling the good energy too! He wanted to stop on a bench for a bit, so we did. Then he found a squeaky tennis ball (his all time favorite) and a nice, plush yard where he proceeded to roll around and play with the ball for 10+ minutes. I let him enjoy every second of it too.
Townes deserved his play time, because he went to a new daycare yesterday (Wag A Lot Decatur) and got a great report card. Please note that he was "the best trial" that the trainer "had all year." Nailed it!

Last night, I fulfilled my first bridesmaid responsibility by addressing and stuffing save the dates (which I am talented at doing apparently). My best friend, Beth, is getting hitched in December so it's time to start cracking down on the planning (especially the bachelorette weekend *wink*)! She made a lovely vegetarian gnocci and we even had fresh peach cobbler from scratch...one of the perks of Georgia summers.

I am so glad that it's Friday...stay tuned for my Friday favorites!
xoxo
