Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade 2014

For the last 3 years, Atlanta has had an awesome lantern parade along the East trail of the Beltline.
We went to the first parade back in 2012 (you can check out that recap here) and then sadly missed it last year. This year, we wanted to put a bit more thought into it, but truly we just took Victor's idea and expanded on it. :)

We met up a few hours before the parade at our house and Victor brought most of the supplies. He handmade an astronaut helmet, J made a planet, and I decided on a moon and alien head. To be honest, I had to leave on a work trip the next morning and still had to pack so I was a bit distracted! Anna came over and we got pizza at Fellini's for dinner and then Anna was sweet enough to drop us off in the Old Fourth Ward so we didn't have to worry about parking.

My favorite - spinach and mushroom!
The crowd was huge this year! I think I read that there were 20,000 people! Once the band started playing, people started filing in order behind, but since it was so crowded it took forever! It was also so slow, because there were so many spectators filling the small Beltline trail path so it was hard to squeeze through the masses!
It's always so fun to see the awesome lanterns that people make. I definitely want to spend more thought and time on my lantern for next year!
I wish we could have been closer to the awesome band, Sead & Feed Marching Abominable, since it felt much more like being in a parade the previous year. Next year, we'll try to get there earlier and get closer to the front for sure.

Time to start brainstorming for next September. To be honest, it might be worth getting a good spot on the sidelines and bringing some wine and food! :)
If you're in Atlanta, make sure to go next year - you will have a blast!
